About Us

The Story Of Our Organisation

Foundation of the Organisation

ZY+ was established in 2013. It is a network of young people and adolescents living with HIV in Zimbabwe whose mission is to coordinate and mobilize young people and adolescents to influence change and access to information and services in all their diversity. The programmes and actions of the organisation are rooted in the rights based approach to development. Currently ZY+ is affiliated to the Zimbabwe National Network of People Living with HIV (ZNNP+), Y+ (Global Network of YPLHIV) adolescents AY+ (African Network of YPLHIV).

We Work with Diverse Populations

We spend a considerable amount of time in Zimbabwe researching about Zimbabwe's diverse populations including, Young People (YP) living and affected by HIV, YP with disabilities, Ophans and vulnerable children living and affected by HIV and LGBTIQ Young People. We are radical about finding ways to aluviate their struggles in Zimbabwe. We believe in fairness and justice among all people regardless of differences in sexuality, HIV status, or anything of the sort.

To empower Y+ to live positively and enjoy full participation in sustainable development through advocacy and capacity building.

We desire a society that is free from HIV Stigmatisation and poverty through a resilient Youth who lives their life in dignity.

To coordinate and mobilize young people and adolescents to influence change and access information and services in all their diversity.

Zimbabwe has a generalized feminized HIV epidemic, and with exceptionally high level of HIV prevalence in the past and significantly lower levels at present - it is estimated that over the last 12 years from 1997 to 2013, adult HIV prevalence has almost halved from 26.5% to 14.3% among adults aged 15 to 49 years. The country has seen over 50% reduction of new HIV infection rate among adults and 75% in children born from HIV+ mothers in the last decade. HIV related deaths have also been reduced by over 60% as a result of our very successful treatment and support programme.

YPLHIV are living productive lives and realising their full potential. Weather you are infected or not, every young person should practice positive living! Remember, we all have a role to play in the drive to end AIDS by 2030. It is possible.
